The main purpose of Virtual Inventory Cartridge is to provide information about VMware virtual machines residing in the Virtual environment. This first version only covers VMware virtual infrastructure.

Views

The Cartridge has a dashboard included. . This allows a user to control from a single pane the virtual inventory presented on 3 different blocks.

  • The first one named "Virtual Machines Inventory", collects all the relevant data about stored virtual machines.

  • The second one named "Virtual ESX Hosts Inventory", collects information about Physical ESX Hosts.

  • The last one "Virtual Storage Inventory" collects relevant information about Virtual Storage.

Report Templates

All the views can be picked by report template as well. All of them are initially prepared in Excel format.

If anyone has issues or can suggest improvements to the cartridge, please send me an email to patrick.delannoy@quest.com.

  • A virtual inventory cartridge (VIC) is a software component that provides a way to manage virtual inventory in Oracle Communications Unified Inventory Management (UIM). VICs are used to define the different types of virtual inventory that can be managed by UIM, as well as the relationships between these types of virtual inventory.

VICs are stored in the UIM database and can be created, modified, and deleted using the UIM administration console. When a VIC is created, it is assigned a unique ID and a name. The VIC also defines the following:

    • The types of virtual inventory that can be managed by the VIC.
    • The relationships between the different types of virtual inventory.
    • The attributes that can be used to describe virtual inventory.

Once a VIC has been created, it can be used to manage virtual inventory in UIM. For example, a VIC can be used to define the different types of virtual circuits that can be managed by UIM, as well as the relationships between these types of virtual circuits.

VICs are a powerful tool that can be used to manage virtual inventory in UIM. By using VICs, you can ensure that virtual inventory is accurately and consistently managed.

Here are some of the benefits of using VICs:

    • Increased flexibility: VICs allow you to define the different types of virtual inventory that can be managed by UIM, as well as the relationships between these types of virtual inventory. This gives you a lot of flexibility in how you manage your virtual inventory.
    • Improved accuracy: VICs can help to ensure that virtual inventory is accurately and consistently managed. This is because VICs define the attributes that can be used to describe virtual inventory. These attributes can be used to validate virtual inventory data, which can help to prevent errors.
    • Reduced complexity: VICs can help to reduce the complexity of managing virtual inventory. This is because VICs provide a single place to define the different types of virtual inventory and the relationships between them. This can make it easier to understand and manage your virtual inventory
