how to change a local account on a pc

is it possible to use the application launcher to do a "Net user localuseraccout newpassword" im trying to get the "Net user" command to work to change a local password and its not working , any ideas how to accomplish this? id really rather not have a batch file with the command(which does work).

In answer to your specific question, yes it is possible to use the application launcher to launch the NET USER command to change the local password. However, it is not advisable to do so due to the many inherent problems involved including the security considerations. Desktop Authority has a specific feature that will allow you to change the local Administrator password in a sound and secure manner. In fact, there is a feature in the User Based Management profile located in the General object and there is one in the Computer Based Management profile in the Local Account Management object. You must simply choose which one you want to use. If you choose to use both, then you will create a conflict with these settings. So, simply choose one of the objects and configure it accordingly.

Hi Quest-Mac , sorry im responding a week later , my issue with this is when looking at computer base management profile , I don't see a way in "Computer Based Management profile in the Local Account Management object" all I see is a pull-down for the local administrator and guest accounts which are built in, Im trying to change the local account we created on the pc's here called "localadmin1" to a different password. I don't see any option anywhere where I can specify a specific account. am i missing something ? btw im on 9.3 if that makes a difference. Thanks again

Hi Malcarese,
My mistake. I thought that you were trying to change the local password for one of those built in accounts. I understand that you are saying that it does work in a batch file but that you would rather not use the batch file and instead you would just like to use the command independent of a batch file. In that case, you would use only the Net or Net.exe command (or the complete path i.e. C:\Windows\System32\Net.exe) for the “File name including path” field on the application launcher. All of the rest of the command line that you are using in your batch file after the actual “Net” command, should be entered on the “Arguments” field in the application launcher element. There are numerous additional caveats depending upon a number of variables, but if this does not work for you, please email me directly at mac.mcwey@quest.com and send me a screenshot of the element and the content of the batch file that works for you and I will be happy to advise you further.
