our customer want to show Display name of nested user that member in group on ntfs report.

how to set this?

  • Hello,

As previously noted you have reached out to our support team with other questions about our product.  It has been determined that some of your requests are not available currently in our product and our support team will be in contact soon with enhancement requests that will be logged on your behalf.  These will be considered for a future release of the product.

For the custom report itself, our team continues to investigate your report request and will upload a draft of the first report shortly.  Please review the report and send us any feedback via this community post.

    Thank you,

    -Angela Freeman

  • Hello again,

The product team has investigated your sample report and drafted a new report for you to take a look at.

    Please download here: www.quest.com/.../232

This report currently contains one single parameter for the inclusion of multiple folder paths.

A few questions to help us solidify your requirements:

    1) Do you require file and folder permissions or just folder?

    2) Do you need any other parameters?

    3) Please validate that all field requirements. The current report has columns for display and account name for the permissioned account and there is account name and description for the group members.  Do you also want display name for the group members?

Provide us a feedback and we can update the report and send another draft.

    Thanks,

    -Angela

  • Hey Angela,

    Thanks for your response.

It seems that the report draft you have shared is similar (almost identical) to our original report (But its without the nested groups).

Is that correct? Are missing here something? (exports of both are attached)

    to answer your questions:

    1. just folder permission

    2. no

    3. yes, we need values to for all the columns that are displayed (including Display name for nested members)

also, it would be great to have assistance with the following:.

    1. We need to make sure no extra excel lines and columns are added/sized differently into the report. Not only this makes it looks bad, it can mess up the table filtering if applicable.
    2. Ability to add/show in the exported report the “report parameters” of each report export (i.e if we filter out disabled accounts from the report using a hidden parameter, we should show it in the export)
    3. If possible, make the table containing the data look more “professional” and more readable, for instance different color for each line, automatic filter enabled for data table....etc

Please let me know if you need any more details or description about the requirement.

    Thanks,

    Oded

  • Hello,

We have further tested and updated the report we provided yesterday and compared to your original report.   We did build this report similar to your sample, using the same graphics and colors.

Here is the second version of your report for download: https://www.quest.com/community/quest/enterprise-reporter/user-cooperation/m/custom-reports/233

The new report is a brand new query that does expand full nested membership for each permissioned account on the folder path.  The report does this expansion inline in the report and each member will appear in a separate row instead of at the bottom in a sub-report .  Also when testing this report please make sure to test a path that has a permissioned account with nested membership.  Your previous output had no membership to be displayed. In addition we have included an example from our testing to show you the expanded nested membership in the report.

The new report includes the following :

    • Requested Fields: Account Name, Account Display Name, Group Member Account Name, Group Member Display Name, Group Member Description, Permissions, Applies To and Is Inherited
    • In addition we added the Group Membership Path Field - so you can see directly how the member is derived.
    • For the parameters, this report has a single parameter for a folder path.  Per your request we have added this parameter value to the report header.  This will allow any report readers to know exactly how the report was filtered at the time it was run.

Lastly we have investigated your other requests and unfortunately these features are not available in the current version of Enterprise Reporter.

We have logged the following feature requests on your behalf and they will be added to our Ideas Forum.  https://www.quest.com/community/quest/enterprise-reporter/ideas

    • Enhancement #1: Provide the ability to specify how many levels of membership to be included in the membership reports, not just second level
    • Enhancement #2: CSV export of reports (Excel):   Ability to support multiple tabs in Excel export format including a cover page
    • Enhancement #3: Ability to customize the layout of the hard-coded sub-report for expanded group membership
    • Enhancement #4: Allow the ability for hidden report parameters to be added to report header
    • Enhancement #5: CSV export of reports (Excel):  Ability to customize Excel row styles and enable Excel filtering in exported report format

Feature requests will be considered for a future release of the product.

If you would like to discuss these feature requests further, please reach out to your account manager and we can set up a direct call to discuss.

    Thank you,
    -Angela

  • Hi,

Thank you so much for your assistance so far.

This report does solve our most critical point, which is listing the nested groups inline with the table including their attributes in place, thumbs up!

Unfortunately, looking at the report definition (as a custom query report that it is now), we now understand that its not going to be an easy task for us convert/copy the design to each and every other report/report templates we need to provide.

i.e: AD group Membership (with nested groups), OU Users listing, local Computer group membership

also this is surely not the preferred outcome for the client since he would like to work/maintain/generate the reports by themselves also to some extent.

Our most urgent need is an AD group membership report, that should expend users inline for nested groups with all the relevant attributes inside the table. (just as the NTFS permission report)

It would be great if you could help with that also. Under the support SR #4410099 you can find ADgroups.zip which contains our report definition and example export that we need need help with fixing...

we are now working on deploying this template for couple of dozens of NTFS reports the client is waiting for. we will also do this for AD group membership.

    Thanks once again!

  • Hi Angela

Your report for us is excellent. Thank you

In addition to this report we will need (the same report) with several additional parameters: (Account name, computer name, permission ace)

I also attached a screenshot of the parameters that exist today in this report.
    Thanks,

  • Hello, we will have a look at adding these extra parameters to your report.

  • A new report has been added.  Due to some restrictions, the permissions parameter is strictly a 'contains', with no special dialog or search.
