Custom Report for File Share Permissions

I am looking for a way to run a folder permissions report on a file share that lists the groups with access in the main report without listing out every member in those groups. Then, in a subreport at the end, list out each group with members listed only once. The report that I am currently running for this, lists out the groups and group members for each folder... over and over again. So if there is a group that has 200 members in it and they have access to the entire file share, that same groups members are listed out hundreds of times in the same report, once for each folder. The reports are 1000's of pages long because of this.

  • Hi Edward,

There is a simiar report at the link: www.quest.com/.../259. Could you please verify if the report fulfills your requirement.

    Thanks

  • Naureen- I am not sure why, but this report does not seem to work for me. I get a message that states "Differences are not available as parent permissions were not collected". This does not make sense because the parent permissions are definitely getting discovered. Also, I am not looking for differences between a folder and its parent folder. If this did work to my needs, I would have to run a separate report for each folder. Our file server is huge and that would be very hard to set up. There is one thing in this report that piques my interest though. There is a parameter for "Create Group Memberships in Sub-reports". This is exactly what I am looking for. If I could get a custom report that had the built in "Folder Permissions" report with the "Create Group Memberships in Sub-reports" tacked onto the end, I would be very very happy. Is this something that can be done? To summarize again, I need a list of all the groups that are added for permissions on each folder(without listing out the group members of each group), then, hopefully get a subreport of each of those groups in the main report listed out with group members listed.

  • Hi Edward,

Thank you for the report request and related details.  We have logged this request into our tracking system and the suggestion will be reviewed by product management in due course.   We will work to have a response to you within 1-2 weeks.

  • Hi Edward,

Sorry for the delayed response. The team and I have been weighing how much custom work we can due in replace of building features, supporting new platforms and increasing performance of existing collections. At this time, we are not in a position to remove development resources off of planned work to customer reports. As a matter of course, we try to fit such work in as we can. All customer reports will be reviewed at a later date for inclusion in the product as standard "fare".
