Discovering registries using wildcards...

Is it possible to use wildcards when discovering the Windows registry?  For example, on one computer there is this path: HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-73586283-573735546-839522115-1107\Network.  I want the contents of the Network key on every single computer discovered by Quest ER.  But, on every single computer, the user SID is different.  So how do i tell ER to ignore the User SID and just get every Network key (and subkey) on every computer?

  • IMO, this is a case where you would be better off doing this kind of filtering at report generation time.

  • Hi jrauman,

Sorry but the discovery for the registry does not have the ability to collect on such a granular level. As mention, you can generate a report and do filtering which allows you to narrow down to the requirement you have above. For example in the "Include the following keys:" just include HKEY_USERS\*\Network\* which will return keys under the \Network key. Note that you will get more keys than just the one above as the match will pick up other keys such as HKEY_USERS\…\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\… but it will be a lot easier to use that a report that has all of the keys.
