Monitoring File servers in a cluster/ Monitor Network file shares!!!

Hi,

We have a set of file servers which are in clustering(Microsoft Cluster server). Does Foglight provide cluster monitoring capability? We are looking for alerts like cluster fail overs, cluster node failures etc.

Also, is it possible to monitor network file shares via Foglight?

  • Foglight does not include a collector that gathers the Microsoft Cluster Server metrics. In order to  gather those metrics, you'd likely need a custom collector that gathers the metrics from the clusters. These aren't terribly hard to create and Foglight includes lots of docmentation to get you started. Once the metrics are being collected, creating the rules, alerts, dashboards, etc should be pretty straightforward.

You could also use the  built in tools that Foglight does include to monitor the cluster. Capabilities such as OS and process monitoring, Windows Event Log monitoring, Dependency Mapping, NetMonitor, etc. If any components are exposed via HTTP or HTTPS, you can use the WebMonitor. All of these are components that are included in Foglight that you can use to monitor the cluster.
