Curved Gaming Monitors – Are They Worth the Investment?

Hi Everyone,

I’m looking to upgrade my gaming setup, and I’ve been hearing a lot about curved gaming monitors. I’m curious if they’re worth the investment or if they’re more of a gimmick. I thought this would be the perfect place to ask since many of you are likely tech-savvy and have experience with gaming hardware.

Here’s my current situation:

  • I mostly play single-player RPGs, open-world games, and occasionally some FPS titles.
  • My current monitor is a flat 27-inch 1080p display with a 60Hz refresh rate.
  • I’m considering a curved monitor with a higher refresh rate (144Hz or more) and possibly 1440p resolution.

My questions are:

  • Does the curved design actually make a noticeable difference in immersion, especially for open-world games?
  • Are there any downsides to curved monitors, like distortion or compatibility issues with certain games?
  • What’s the ideal screen size and curvature (e.g., 1800R, 1500R) for a gaming-focused curved monitor?
  • Do I need a high-end GPU to fully utilize a curved 1440p monitor, or will my mid-range setup (GTX 1660 Super) handle it well?

I’d love to hear your thoughts, recommendations, or even personal experiences with curved monitors. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Thanks for starting this discussion! I play Avatar World Game on PC and lately I’ve been experiencing some lag—especially during busy scenes. I’m currently on a MacBook Pro 2018 (16GB RAM, 256GB SSD), and I’m wondering if an upgrade to a curved monitor or even a full setup might help. If anyone has monitor or PC build suggestions that work well for modded games like this, I’d love to hear them!

  • Thanks for kicking off this discussion! I’ve been playing Avatar World Game on PC, and lately I’ve noticed some lag—especially during more intense or crowded scenes. I'm using a 2018 MacBook Pro (16GB RAM, 256GB SSD), and I'm thinking about upgrading to a curved monitor or possibly building a full setup. If anyone has tips on monitors or PC builds that run modded games like this smoothly, I’d really appreciate it. Also, feel free to check out avatarworldgeeks.com where I share more about my gameplay experience and setup ideas.

  • I've been using a curved gaming monitor for a few months now, and I’d say it really depends on what kind of games you’re into. For immersive, story-driven or open-world games, the curved display definitely adds a more engaging feel, especially with a wide field of view.

One thing I noticed when playing stylized or simulation games—like avatar world unlocked—is that the curved screen gives a slight edge in visual depth and environment immersion. It doesn’t change gameplay mechanics, of course, but it makes the whole world feel more alive and less flat, which adds to the experience if you’re someone who enjoys visual creativity in gaming.

So yes, for certain games and genres, curved monitors can absolutely be worth the investment.
