Reasons for "The remote server returned an error: (429)"

We are performing migration of SharePoint sites from SP 2013 to O365 sites using Metalogix Content Matrix Tool. During migration, we are continuously getting the error message "The remote server returned an error: (429)". Can you please let us know what are the possible causes for this error ? 

  • The reason is throttling.

    It is highly recommended to upgrade CM V8603 and later as some adjustment were made in that respect in CM to respond to recent changes in MS migration platform.
