Splitting content types in Metalogix

Hi Team,

I would just like to ask if its possible to split a specific content type into two different content types? For example i have 'Content type A' from source having

Name, Address, Age, Employee Number, Company, Department.

And in my target site i have Content type B and C having the following columns:

Content Type B

- Name

- Address

- Age

Content Type C

- Employee Number

- Company

- Department

For this example, i just wanted to know if its possible that i can do mapping from Metalogix wherein i will be splitting up the source Content type A into Content types B and C in target? Is it possible on the tool? Please advise. Thanks

  • Hi Wes,

Thanks and appreciated your response. On the other hand, i saw that the KB you have sent me only discusses per list mapping. I wanted to know is there a way how we can do mapping as a bulk list, meaning all the list can have mapping all at once. I believe this one is possible using > Paste Site Content > then List Content Options > Apply  new content types during copy > click ellipses.

Then from here i saw there is a command "Apply  Content Types via Rule".

From here, im totally have no idea how to use it. Well by the way the scenario is like this:

    Source site (sp2010)

    - We have 3 document libraries: Doclib1 has content type A, Doclib2 has content type B, and Doclib3 has content type C which all content type in flat structure.

    - All 3 document libraries has outlook files (.msg) and non-outlook files (docs, spreadsheet, images etc)

    Target site

    - We have content type W, content type X, content type Y,  and content type Email

Now we wanted to do is, we want to config in metalogix are

    1. Migrate Doclib1 items, having a condition:

        - if document name has .msg extension (outlook message document), mapped to content type Email

        - else mapped to content type W

    2. Migrate Doclib2, having a condition:

        - if document name has .msg extension (outlook message document), mapped to content type Email

        - else mapped to content type X

    3. Migrate Doclib3 , having a condition:

        - if document name has .msg extension (outlook message document), mapped to content type Email

        - else mapped to content type Y

I hope you can help me on this query. Thanks in advance.
