Default Active Directory Group (Domain Users) group members not updated from source to target domain

We have migrated Default Active Directory Group (Domain Users) from source domain to target domain and ran full sync successfully. However,  group (Source\Domain Users) members is not getting populated to the migrated group (Target\Domain Users) in Target domain. We followed instruction mentioned in the below article to migrate Default Active Directory Group (Domain Users).

https://support.quest.com/migration-manager-for-ad/kb/25519/is-it-possible-to-migrate-built-in-groups-like-domain-admins-and-domain-users

Any idea and suggestions to mitigate this problem is highly appreciated.

  • Domain Users actually has no members. The membership is calculated based on the users primaryGroupID. So when you migrate the domain users group to the target and not merging it with the target domain users group will result in a group without members. When the directory sync runs for the users, the primaryGroupID will be updated to the RID of the migrate group. This will results in the users NOT being a member target domain users and will be a calculated member of the migrated domain users group.

So my question to you is do you want the migrated users to be members of the target domains users group AND the migrated/renamed domain users group OR only a member of the migrated/renamed domain users?

  • We want the migrated users to be members of the both target domains users group (target\domain users) AND the migrated/renamed domain users group (target\domain users-target).
