** NEW-BE** Change User - prefix only

Hi All,

This is my first post and I am hoping that someone can offer me some much needed information.

We have an emergency project which involves changing the prefix of users in the same Domain for example CEU00001 to HEU00001. We are not migrating the users simply changing the login ID and we would like to keep the users profiles "as is" at point of Prefix change, and reach back from the new HEU logged in account to the CEU profile.

The question I have is - can the quest Migration Manager or RUM tool be used for this purpose, and if so could someone let me know how I could achieve this task using these tools.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

  • Good Day,

Because the User profile is tied to the Active Directory Objects "ObjectSID", a rename of the account should not affect the access to their existing Windows Profile.  If you aren't migrating the objects from one Domain to Another, then this shouldn't affect their access to their existing profile.

If you are migrating objects using Migration Manager, then absolutely RUM (Resource Updating Manager) will assist by dual ACL'ing the User directory, and Set the Target Matched objects SID to the existing profile in the registry, so the target user will maintain access to their original "Source" profile.

    I hope this helps,

    Luke

  • Hi Luke,

Not sure if I understand how to complete the task but I will attempt it based on your response. By the way thanks very much for the reply. Do you know if there is a step by step user guide anywhere. I am not entirely up to speed using Quest products. I have only ever used it for migrating machines across Domains.

    Regards.
