Can QMM be used to migrate source Hybrid environments?

Company A just bought out Company B. Company A and B both have their own on-prem AD/Exchange hybrid configurations with their own Microsoft 365 tenants. Both companies Primary SMTP domains are different.

Can QMM be used by itself or is both QMM and OnDemmand required if that is an option?

  • In the source, is there data to be migrated both in Exchange on-prem and Exchange Online? Are the target mailboxes on-prem / online / both?
Are Public Folders to be migrated (from/to on-prem or online)?

Do the user accounts already exist in the target, or should they be migrated?

Are local resources (end user PCs/laptops, file servers, ...) to be migrated from the source AD to the target AD?

Are other workloads (OneDrive, Teams, ...) to be migrated from the source Tenant to the target Tenant?

  • Guys, this is a real simple question and please don't over think it. Can you configure QMM with a source On-Prem Exchange that is already configured as a Hybrid configuration with Exchange Online.

I'm thinking yes, but QMM would only be able to migrate MB's from the on-prem side.

    1. QMM EX can only migrate On-prem mailboxes and Public folders from Company B to Company A On-prem Exchange or Exchange Online
    2. On Demand Migration for Email can migrate both Company B's On-prem and Exchange Online mailboxes to Company A's On-prem or EXO
    3. On Demand Migration can migrate Company B's EXO  mailboxes and public folders to Company A's EXO, and can migrate SPO, ODfB, Teams, M365 Groups and Public folders.

To the simply answer Yes, No and Depends.
