What is the purpose of media group?

Hi, I am new to Netvault. Can someone explain to me the use of media group? I have search the administration guide but didn't seem to be able to find the definition of it. Thanks

    "Media group" is an important Option for tape re-use and grouping backup jobs on the same media group. You should use same media groups for same backup life (expire) and allow to reuse media in "target option sets".
