Error: object reference not set to an instance of an object error user mapping Quest Migrator for notes to SharePoint console' tool.

We are facing below issue while doing user mapping from Lotus notes to SharePoint 2016 OnPrem,

Error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error while working on the user mapping using 'Quest Migrator for notes to SharePoint console' tool.

Before clicking on the migrate to SharePoint option we have done/configured the below setup a part of process,

 a) Set up wizard with necessary changes has been done,

 b) We have done Advanced configurations with SharePoint Site, given path of the user XML.

 c) We have selected all of the options under migration targets a) ACL entry mapping  and  b) SharePoint group mapping check boxes.

 d) Under Advanced security settings also we are not able to get the LN groups/Roles which are to be mapped to SharePoint groups.

 e) After all the above set up, once we click on the 'Migrate to SharePoint' we are getting the above error.

Thanks in advance.

  • Thanks for posting to the Migrator for Notes to SharePoint (MNSP) forum, I understand you are experiencing issues with user mapping. I have a couple of questions for you:

1.) What is the exact version of MNSP you are using (Help | About)?

2.) In MNSP Designer, Tools | Options | User Mapping, have you tried the Test User Mapping link? What was the result? Note: The target SharePoint site will need to be set on the SharePoint tab in order to test User Mapping successfully.

3.) Are you using the Quest Import Service?

The following portion of the MNSP User Guide provides additional details about the User Mapping tab:

    Answers to your questions,

1.) What is the exact version of MNSP you are using (Help | About)?

--> We are using MNSP version: 6.10.0.2636

2.) In MNSP Designer, Tools | Options | User Mapping, have you tried the Test User Mapping link? What was the result? Note: The target SharePoint site will need to be set on the SharePoint tab in order to test User Mapping successfully.

--> We have done that and we usually do the above setting as a part of migration process and we get the user ID logon details etc.

3.) Are you using the Quest Import Service?

--> We are not using the Quest import service, we are following the normal user mapping process but even after all the set up, once we click on the 'Migrate to SharePoint' we are  getting the above error(object reference not set to an instance of an object).

  • Thanks for the update and additional information. It sounds like the user mapping test is working, but the migration is not. Are you able to download and install the latest version of MNSP from the following link?

If the latest version of MNSP does not resolve the issue, then you will need to create a Service Request so that we can investigate further:

  • Hello Trevor Taegder,

    Thanks for your reply,

The issue has got resolved but we are not able to see LN groups under Advanced security mappings-->Group Name Mappings-->When we tried to add the groups from LN we are not able to see the LN groups in 'Notes role/Group Name' drop down, but we are able see SharePoint groups in the 'SharePoint Group Name 'drop down.

    Kindly Help us.

  • Hello,

Thanks for the update. Migrator for Notes to SharePoint (MNSP) does a live query for Notes groups that are assigned rights to the database. If you are unable to see any groups in the Notes role/group name drop-down, then either there are no groups assigned ACLs to the database, or your Notes ID file may not have the necessary rights (usually Manager) to see the ACLs on the database.

  • Hello,

    Thanks for your reply,

Currently we are getting the above issue with "Migrator for Notes to SharePoint Console" tool,

    Description:

We are not able to see LN groups under Advanced security mappings-->Group Name Mappings-->When we tried to add the groups from LN we are not able to see the LN groups in 'Notes role/Group Name' drop down, but we are able see SharePoint groups in the 'SharePoint Group Name 'drop down.

  • Hello,

Thanks for the update. Yes, I understand the issue you are experiencing. This issue is likely caused by one or both of the following issues:

1.) There are no groups assigned ACLs to the database.

2.) The Notes ID file you are using with MNSP may not have the necessary rights (usually Manager) to see the ACLs on the database.

If you are still experiencing this issue after checking the items above, then the next step will be to create a Service Request to actively troubleshoot with a Support Engineer. You can create a Service Request using the link below:
