What is the average output (in terms of volume/hour) for Notes Notes Migrator for SharePoint tool, when used for migration to SP On premise

We need to give an estimate to our client for the migration of their Lotus notes databases to SharePoint 2016 on premise environment. Is there any average volume of data per hour (example 1gb/hr) which we can use to estimate the time taken for the migration? Thanks.

  • Hello Avin,

Thanks for posting in the Migrator for Notes to SharePoint (MNSP) forum. I understand that you are looking for a migration throughput estimate when migrating from Notes to an on-premise SharePoint 2016 environment. Unfortunately, there is no way to estimate the throughput in your environment with your data. There are just too many factors involved, including the actual data being migrated. Notes records with just text will migrate with lower throughput, as there is overhead for each record. Records with large attachments will provide much higher throughput, as there is more data per record. The best way to get a throughput baseline would be to migrate a couple of databases in your environment.

In regards to how to get the best performance from MNSP, the following KB article provides additional details:

    support.quest.com/.../performance-and-optimization-concerns-114965-

Installing the Quest Import Service on the SharePoint server and using that service to bulk import data into SharePoint will provide the best performance. We would also suggest providing as much RAM to the MNSP migration server as possible.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or need any additional clarification.

  • Thank you so much Trevor.

    1. But how can we give an estimate to the client for such an activity? is there a baseline that is safe to consider as an estimate?

    2. Also, would Quest be suitable as a tool for migrating large volume of data like 15-18 TB?

  • Hello Avin,

1.) Unfortunately, there is no way to provide a baseline. You would need to migrate real production data from the source environment to the desired target environment to gather a baseline.

2.) Yes, you should be able to migrate 15-18 TB or more data without issue using Migrator for Notes to SharePoint (MNSP).

    Regards,

    Trevor
