VM Export - Missing Operating System

Hey guys,

Forgive me for the n00b question but I am a fresh grad.

I am trying to export a Windows server 2012 R2 snapshot from Rapid Recovery to a VM  but when I try to boot it, i get a "Missing Operating System" error. After a bit of looking around, I realised Rapid recovery is not backing up the default 2gb of space that windows reserves for the MBR.

So I tried to use an ISO to get to a command line and run fixboot or fixmbr but alas the VM won't even recognize the ISO. Next I tried to get the VM to boot from the secondary partition, since the primary 2gb one with the MBR is missing, that provided no results as well.

Has anyone run into this issue in the past? any idea where I can go from here?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi DarthAnnix,

Please open a support ticket to best assist you.  Virtual export/standby involves a lot of "knowing the pieces" before the correct solution can be applied.  As Emte stated, the first thing our support team would want to look at is why the 2GB partition isn't being backed up and exported to the hypervisor.
