P-1859

The description says this is a cumulative patch, but when attempting to install it, get an error that an incompatible patch P-1834 is installed.

So, go add/remove programs, select P1834 to remove and the last thing it does is re-start the core service.

I sure hope starting the core after uninstalling P-1834 doesn't hose up the system.

Also, a note in the install about removing P-1834 might be in order or a workaround for this.

Thanks.

  • Hi:
    P-1859 requires removing P-1834 indeed.
To work around the issue, as a rule of the thumb, the best approach is disabling the RapidRecoveryCoreService after stopping it before uninstalling/installing any patches. This would allow installing a new patch without going through the process of restarting the core. A second thing to keep in mind is to run patches in compatibility mode ("previous version of Windows" would do) to avoid the remote chance that the patch installation fails.
In your case, as long as no jobs were performed at the time the core service was stopped, no negative secondary effects are to be expected.
  • It appears to have installed ok, no errors yet, waiting on the cores to start back up. I guess that is the first "cumulative" patch I've encountered that required a previous patch be removed first. My patching notes are now updated, Thanks for the super quick response.
