Export OST File to PST Using Outlook (Free Method)
Microsoft Outlook offers a built-in option to export mailbox data from an OST file to a PST file. This is a free and convenient method—as long as the OST file is connected to an active Outlook profile.
Steps to Export OST to PST in Outlook:
-
Launch Microsoft Outlook
Open Outlook on your system. -
Go to File Menu
Click the File tab in the top menu bar. -
Choose Import/Export Option
Select Open & Export, then click Import/Export. -
Select Export Option
In the Import and Export Wizard, choose Export to a file, then click Next. -
Choose Output Format
Select Outlook Data File (.pst) and click Next. -
Select the Mailbox or Folders
Choose the mailbox or folders you wish to export, then click Next. -
Choose Save Location
Click Browse to select a destination on your system to save the PST file. -
Finish the Process
Click Finish to start the export. Your OST data will be saved as a PST file at the selected location.
Limitations of the Manual Method
This method only works if the OST file is associated with a valid and connected Outlook profile.
If the OST file is orphaned (i.e., no longer linked to an active account), Outlook will not open it—and this method will not work.
Need to Export Orphaned OST Files?
In such cases, you’ll need a third-party solution.
