Upgrade Target Database

Hi

We are just in a phase of evaluation of replication products.

I've used  shareplex a few years ago,so I'm not sure wether I'm right.
Well, whats our plan?
We have an Oracle 12 running and want to upgrade to 19.2.
Of course minimal downtime, reduction of risks, etc.

So I said:
Well, no problem:
We will set up an replication from 12  to 12 at first place.
We will check that replication is running fine.

If so, we shutdown shareplex, upgrade the target database to 19 an start shareplex again.
Shareplex will grap the data in the queues an post them to new target.

I know this is quite simplified, but I hope I'm right with this idea?

Thx

  • Hi, Christian - well, yes; the outline you have should work; as they say "the work is in the details"; but, at a high level, this will work.    This will leave you with an "updated" 12c database (as your 19c database).  What some of our customers do is create a fresh, empty database on the new version and then do their "restore" into that, this avoids having to use DBCA.

As you can imagine, the details can be quite complex.  I'd recommend talking with your account manager and discussing a short services engagement to help you with the architecture and testing.
