ChangeBASE: How to determine and fix legacy help file compatibility issues

In this video we will demonstrate the issue pertaining to “Legacy Help Files”. We will demonstrate how ChangeBASE is able to resolve the issue and make the legacy help files (hlp) available to users.

Here is a little background on the issue as described in our Next Step document.

 

The help engine that came with Windows 3.0 looked like this:

 

 

At the time it was designed, it was quite novel to have hyperlinks that, when clicked on, took you to another page. Many of its other features have also been superseded by the functionality offered in web pages. The modern

version of help files, .CHM is based on HTML.

 

As a result, the help engine has been withdrawn from Windows 7 and an error message is shown whenever a

program or document attempts to use it.
