AI adoption is accelerating at an alarming pace (you'll see what I did there), revolutionizing industries and fundamentally changing how companies, institutions, and people address data challenges.

Quest's Foglight for Databases is no exception with the introduction of AI Alarms!

AI Alarms is an embedded, intelligent assistant within Foglight v8 (previously released in Foglight Cloud ) that redefines how users interact with availability and performance alarms. Instead of relying solely on static alarm metadata and manual investigation, AI Alarms offers automated insights and guided troubleshooting based on alarm context. AI Alarms offers real-time analysis with a dynamic chat interface.

From Foglight's Global View, select a number in the colored box from the 'DB Alarms' column. Then, select the date/time of a particular alarm.

A dialog box appears. Select the AI Alarms button.

The AI Alarms drawer appears on the right side. To access the AI Alarms feature, users need to log in with a Quest account, which they’ll be prompted to create if it's their first time.

Once logged in, access remains active throughout the session unless the token expires due to inactivity. Easily hide the drawer for more workspace and monitoring view, and pick up where you left off as needed.

AI Alarms doesn’t just repeat metrics; it actively interprets them. Using context-aware recommendations, AI Alarms analyzes the alarm conditions alongside historical trends, system topology, and performance indicators to suggest root causes. It also proposes next steps, such as areas to investigate or queries to explore further, helping users move efficiently to resolution.

AI Alarms pulls together data across multiple layers from telemetry and health metrics to configuration settings, providing a holistic view of what triggered the alert. By correlating these insights, it helps users understand how query behavior, resource bottlenecks, and blocked sessions are connected to the underlying issue.

AI Alarms introduces a conversational approach to troubleshooting.

At the bottom of the AI Alarms drawer, users can instantly access an AI-powered chat and ask context-specific questions such as “Why did this alarm trigger?”, “What are the likely causes?”, or “What should I investigate next?”.

Users can ask for keywords to be clarified, like "What is a Postgres Vacuum process?" The AI technology can even assist with generating scripts. This enables users to transition from raw alerts to actionable insights in just seconds.

AI Alarms includes a built-in feedback feature that allows users to rate the quality of its responses.

When a user clicks the thumbs-down icon, a feedback window appears offering predefined reasons for dissatisfaction. Users can also type a custom explanation to give more details. This input is then submitted directly to the AI for analysis and future improvements. Clicking the thumbs-up icon allows users to register positive feedback without needing to provide additional input, though they can expand if they’d like. This streamlined system ensures that valuable feedback from users helps refine the AI over time.
