The KACE Systems Management Appliance is great at automating those everyday administrative chores you face daily. Be it device inventory, patching, reporting, or software deployment, KACE can handle it. With the newest release (v9) of the KACE Systems Management Appliance you can do even more!  KACE now has the capability to chain together existing tasks to run sequentially outside of their normal schedules. This is a great feature for times when you may need to run multiple disparate tasks in sequence, such as running Wake-On-LAN against a group of machines before patching. Or maybe you have a script to disable BitLocker prior to running a BIOS update. With task chaining advanced automation is easier than ever.

The process is simple:

  1. Click on Distribution and select Task Chain.
  2. Click on Choose Action, then select new.
  3. Enter a name and description of the new Task Chain.
  4. Select a Device Label to dynamically target the needed endpoints.
  5. Select the appropriate scheduled times to run.
  6. Select New Task.
  7. Add as many tasks as you would like.
  8. Select Save when you are finished customizing your Task Chain.

Note: Scripts selected must be online scripts. You may select from Patch, Scripts, Managed Installations, File Synchronizations and Wake-on-LAN schedules.

As with anything new it is always a good idea to run your new schedule against a test group first. When you are satisfied with the results, deploy as normal to production. The KACE System Management Appliance is designed to automate the mundane tasks so you have time to innovate. With the new Task Chain feature this is easier than ever. • Also, appointment scheduling tools can definitely be considered as part of business automation. Automating the appointment scheduling process can save time, streamline operations, and enhance overall efficiency. As for me, Calday eliminate the need for manual scheduling, phone calls, and back-and-forth emails. Our clients can book appointments online at their convenience, and the software automatically updates the schedule in real-time. This automation saves significant time for both businesses and customers. Perfect!

  • Edullum,

Make sure the script is online Kscript as an offline Kscript is not controlled by KACE SMA the same way a online one is. So it cannot be a part of a task chain.

  • I have a modified shutdown script that has an enabled status and production status; however when I try to add the script to the task chain I get an error message that says, "Alert! There are no Scripts available to select".

  • The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to make sure the elements of the task chain are also enabled for the users, ie scripting, WoL, and patching. If you have already done that I would suggest opening a support ticket, so someone can have a look at all the settings with you.

    Good luck.
