Network Monitoring: You need It Before You Need It
Monitoring: It’s Useless after the Fact
The whole point of IT monitoring is to give you a leg up. To give you advanced notice of things going wrong. And in
some cases, to fix those problems automatically or at least enable you to fix them more quickly. But for that to
happen, the system has to be in place before the problems actually arise.
A lot of admins (and their companies) put off installing a monitoring solution. Monitoring software is often perceived
as expensive, complex to deploy and configure, and offering little direct value to the company’s users. That’s a pretty
old-school attitude, though, since modern monitoring solutions are quick to deploy, easy to configure, inexpensive,
and help keep users productive instead of sitting around waiting for the network to get fixed.
