After an extensive beta cycle with over 2000 customers, a controlled GA with 700 customers and general availability that began this week for vRanger 5.0, we’ve received some great feedback. While this release of vRanger PRO introduced many new features our customers have been asking for, such as Linux File Level Recovery (LFR), NFS and FTP support, two of the features that have become standouts and generated the most positive feedback have been the Fibre SAN restore capability and simplified recovery of ESX and ESXi environments via the new backup catalog.
I believe the reason behind this is while we always talk about “backup”, the feature that really counts is recovery. Just in the span of a week I’ve heard from dozens of customers who have discovered the speed from which they can restore ESX(i) data over a SAN, including many users of competitive products who feel this one very important feature is worth making the switch to vRanger PRO 5.0. I’ve posted a presentation on SlideShare that includes screen captures that demonstrate just how easy recovery of files and virtual machines can be with vRanger PRO 5.0. The full function catalog allows our customers to recover data in just three steps: Search, Select and Restore.
Fibre SAN restore and full backup catalog integration, both firsts in the virtual backup market, are the beginning of many features that will be released in vRanger PRO over the coming months and will change the landscape for VMware backup and recovery.
