LiteSpeed for SQL Server Garners Multiple Industry Awards

As you may have already seen, Quest LiteSpeed® for SQL Server was recently honored by the editors and readers of Penton Media’s SQL Server Magazine in the publication’s annual Editor’s Best and Community Choice Awards, taking home an Editor’s Choice Silver award and a Community Choice Bronze award for best backup and recovery software product. (All told, the Quest family took home 13 awards.)This is the second straight year LiteSpeed has been recognized by both the editors and readers, and if you’re keeping score at home, that’s one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in the past two years alone.

Needless to say, we’re equal parts proud and grateful. Proud of the hard work the entire LiteSpeed team has done to deliver this market-leading technology to our customers, and even more grateful to have had this hard work recognized by SQL Server Magazine’s editors and, most importantly, its readers. When you’re in our line of work, there’s perhaps no greater thrill than seeing your products recognized for excellence by the end-user community, so I’d like to personally thank to the readers of SQL Server Magazine for this honor.

If you’re new to LiteSpeed, there are many reasons why it ranks as a multi-award winning product. LiteSpeed delivers end-users a host of critical features, including network resilience for automated recovery from I/O problems, and eight levels of compression for optimal space savings. Our customers regularly achieve compression rates of up to 95%, a number we’re confident is unsurpassed by any other product on the market today.

But if there’s one feature that really sets LiteSpeed apart, it’s the product’s adaptive compression technology. Ask any DBA, and they’ll tell you that one of the biggest challenges they struggle with on a daily basis is finding the necessary balance between compressing the right amount of data and minimally impacting backup performance. All of the compression in the world does you no good if your backup takes forever as a result, and manually working to find the right balance can be a tedious, difficult and time-consuming process.

LiteSpeed’s adaptive compression technology addresses this challenge by dynamically and automatically changing the backup’s compression level – every second, if needed – in order to take advantage of available CPU and find the sweet spot where customer get the smallest backup in the fastest possible time.

No matter how many awards we win, we’ll never stop working hard to ensure that we’re bringing the best possible products to the market. You’ll see plenty of evidence of that from the LiteSpeed team in 2012, so check back with this blog regularly or follow us on Twitter for updates.

Happy holidays!
