The role of the data scientist has become a bit of a legend in the analytics industry these past few years. Many of my DBA friends have gained instant career advancement with self-appointed promotions by adding this job title to their LinkedIn profiles leading to raises and general admiration from their peers. Tom Davenport and D.J. Patil wrote about this topic back in 2012 for the Harvard Business Review and it caused everyone to take notice of this analytically driven job. The role of the data scientist has evolved these past 3 years and so has the definition.
