Agent metadata is not available with "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Hello everyone,

A few days ago, a server that was backing up perfectly fine, suddenly started giving me errors when it tried to start a backup.

When I open the details page of this server it states "Unable to get details for 'server'. Verify that 'server' is powered on, connected to the network, and the Data Protection | Rapid Recovery Agent service is running. ( Details )

When I click Details it says "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I already repaired and reinstalled the agent, re-added the server to the core. Nothing seems to work. Core and all agents are up to date (6.1.0.645)

Can anyone help me out?

  • That sure looks like defect RR-100989. Here is our KB article about that - support.quest.com/.../222173. Rather than make you open a support case, here is the download link to the patch - s3.amazonaws.com/.../P-1992.msi. You need to install the patch on the core. To do that:

    1. Stop the core service (if this is a DL appliance stop the Dell Storage Management Web Service too)
    2. Right click on the patch -> properties -> unblock
    3. Install the patch
    4. Start the core service

This should not require a reboot and should fix the issue.
