Discrepancy on the hardware requirements for Foglight Management Server

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm trying to calculate our hardware requirements for the FMS.

I've got to think the second example in the walk-through may not be for the Foglight Management Server alone.

From https://www.quest.com/community/quest/performance-monitoring/b/performance-monitoring-blog/posts/foglight-for-databases-installation-requirements-and-walk-through:

Have a physical or virtual machine to host Foglight, meeting the follow hardware requirements based on the total number of SQL Server + Windows connections you’d like to monitor:

Monitored Connections     <5     <50     <100     <200

  • Hi Jason,

That blog post uses a chart that totals the CPUs, memory, and space requirements for the three charts (FMS, FglAM, and SQL PI repository) in the deployment guide under the "SQL PI configured" section. It seems to be intended for an "All in one" installation on one server that are usually installed with a "Foglight for Databases" installer which includes a FMS, FglAM, and DB cartridges together in one package.

These "All in One" systems are only supported up to 20 database agents on a single server. Recent deployment guides specify that architectures monitoring more than 20 database agents should have the FMS, Agent Manager (FglAM), and SQL PI repository installed on separate servers.
