Events broken in RR

Refering back to my ticket on the "old" forum...

http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/data-protection/f/4816/t/19987712

Events in to the windows event viewer doesnt work. All normal bits checked, in RR, reg keys, support havent found a solution yet

  • Admitted there is now a defect in the upgrade process.
    Pending fixes.
    Not proper fix until 6.1..
  • The only related defect I know can be fixed by removing the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AppRecovery\Core\Events
    (after exporting it).
If the core performs normally, you DO NOT NEED to stop the core service; refreshing the Events page after removing the Events registry key will recreate it with the default values.
Please note that some agents have their own eventsservice registry key (i.e. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AppRecovery\Core\Agents\<agentID>\EventsService)
If you did not try this approach, please do so.
  • Just to add.
Installed RR on a normal server, not an upgrade and the dell log didnt create.. again.. so its not an upgrade issue
  • Hi Stephen -- I have sent you an e-mail. At this point I believe it is a localization issue.
  • Hi Stephen:
I was able to reproduce your issue after installing Windows with the UK locale. (although I put in quite some effort to succeed)
I made sure that the UK locale is chosen on the core (settings->general tab->locale).
I stopped the core service and force-restarted the eventsystem and eventlog services:

PS C:\Users\Administrator> restart-service eventsystem -passthru -force

    Status Name DisplayName
    ------ ---- -----------
Running SENS System Event Notification Service

    Running eventsystem COM+ Event System

PS C:\Users\Administrator> restart-service eventlog -passthru -force

    Status Name DisplayName
    ------ ---- -----------
Running RapidRecoveryCore Dell Data Protection | Rapid Recove...
    Running netprofm Network List Service
    Running NlaSvc Network Location Awareness
    Running eventlog Windows Event Log

Restarted the Event Viewer MMC as there were logged events could not find the corresponding messages

Since I have done that, the RR events are captured:

    PS C:\Users\Administrator> get-eventlog -LogName DELL

Index Time EntryType Source InstanceID Message
    ----- ---- --------- ------ ---------- -------

Hope that it would work for you too :)
  • Thanks, ill give it a shot.

Noticed restarting eventlog restarts the core service!!

Will this create the dell log when its now in eventviewer?
  • Hi Stephen:
Have you restarted the eventviewer? In my case, some undetermined records were written to the DELL log and restarting the EventViewer fixed them.
  • I did, nothing is being written, only the write-eventlog test i did.
