The challenge was to make a fun dashboard for our internal NOC / SysAdmin staff. The old out of the box dashboards were just starting to feel tired and boring. I decided to attempt to make one that was more "lively" so that people would start paying attention to them.
The Christmas tree ornaments represent the top mission critical production WebSphere 7.0 servers. Application servers on left (Christmas tree) to database on the right side (menorah).
The spinner inside the Christmas reef is the average CPU Utilization of all of our important infrastructure servers.
Rudolph's "red nose" represents outstanding alerts for any host.
The presents under the Christmas tree are really "FTR" (synthetic transactions) shaped in the form of well wrapped gifts. Those are monitoring our customer facing (money generating) applications.
The orange flames from the Hannukah menorah represent memory usage from our most critical production databases.
Oh, and a list of alarms on the bottom left for good measure.
