Hello out there in data land. My name is Robert Pound, and I'm a product technologist from Quest. In this video, I'd like to talk to you about working with result sets in the visual query builder of Toad Data Point. Understanding and combining data are two of the major endeavors at the front end of any data analysis task. Toad Data Point addresses these issues in a number of ways. However, today we will focus on the query builder.
Highlights of the query builder include working with disparate data sources to form a more complete result set, including all sources available in Toad Data Point. A visual interface allowing users to quickly interact with their data through mouse clicks. Being able to quickly and easily analyze and understand your data. As well as the ability to collaborate around your data sources.
Now let's walk through a more detailed example of how to work with results in the query builder. In a previous video, I showed how we can build out a query in the query builder. Now let's take a look at the result set. So first thing's first, I'm going to go back to the diagram.
And I'm going to go ahead and filter on state. And the reason I'm doing this we will see in a second. But I'm going to go ahead and say where state is not null. And I'm going to go ahead and execute this again.
So now, when we look at the result set tab, we can see two separate results sets themselves. And the reason I wanted to filter is so that we could see the differences. Essentially, there are 39 results for this set. And there are 50 for this one. And you can see there are states with null. And that's because the country is not US.
But in any event, for each one of these results sets, you can switch to the message tab. This is going to be the same regardless of which result set you have selected, because this is where all your statuses are going to show up. If you had any errors, it would immediately point to this. It can show you the duration time of the queries, et cetera.
The Explain Plan for each one of the queries-- so this is dependent on result set. Pivot Chart-- this is a way to quickly validate your data. So if you wanted to start dragging and dropping things into these fields, you can quickly see whether your data is correct or not. And Profiling-- so this gives you a more in-depth look at your data itself.
So you can see from here whether you have duplicate or null fields. You can see the top patterns. You can see some statistics on the fields themselves. And for a full profile, you can come up to the top and choose full profile. That will be covered in another video. And again, depending on the results that you have selected, it's going to change the Pivot Chart and the Profiling.
So moving back to the result set. From the data grid itself, not only can you preview the data, you can also right-click anywhere in the grid. And you have a number of options. So you can choose to export the data. And you can walk through a wizard. You can also choose Quick Export. And many of these are at the top in the toolbar as well.
But you can choose to export to an instance of Excel. You can also send it to a number of different tools inside Toad Data Point. For instance, you can send it to a profile, as we talked about. You can send it to Transform and Cleanse.
The Data Point viewer-- this is a way to quickly aggregate your data, roll up your data, et cetera. You can visualize your data. You can also collaborate around your data. This is through Toad Intelligent Central Server. You can also save an offline copy to your local storage. So you have a number of options, once you've actually collected the data, to further your data analysis initiative.
Hopefully, this video helped you understand how you can work with results in the query builder from Toad Data Point. To get more information on this or other topics, you can use the Toad Help file. Toad Help has a great deal of documentation as well as tutorials to help you work through different issues.
