Over the past couple of years of working for Quest I’ve found alot of customers have the same questions about Foglight. Alot of these are simple things that can be answered in a couple of minutes (I usually already have a howto document ready in OneNote to send to them). So over the next few months I’m going to post some of these here and share them with my readership (both of you).
So to kick things off, todays tip answers the common question “Do Foglight dashboards refresh automatically, and how can I configure that?”
Foglight dashboards are (mostly) configured to automatically refresh based on a default value of 300 Seconds. This value is configurable by you in your user preferences. You can also set a dashboard to automatically refresh at a different interval if required.
To find out the refresh rate of a dashboard, open up the action panel on the right hand side of your screen and choose “properties” -> “Edit Basic Properties”
This will bring up the dashoard properties dialog. You can do a number of things here but we want to focus on the auto refresh rate section. You will see for most dashboards this is set to the user default. If you wish you can choose to have the dashboard never refresh, or set you own interval by using the appropriate radio box:
As you can see, the user default refresh rate is 300 seconds (5 minutes). If you decide you want to change this, go to Configuration -> User preferences in the right hand menu, and change the Refresh Interval. This will impact all the dashboards in Foglight that use the default refresh interval, but remember that this is only for the username you logged in as.
So in summary – Foglight dashboards usually use a default refresh rate that can be configured in your user prefs, but you can also manually set a refresh rate for each dashboard should you wish to.
