Quest Free Network tools will not activate

I have downloaded and installed the Quest Free Network tools but cannont get the product activated. I have identified my IT role and entered the e-mail address used for this forum and access to other Quest services but when I click finish it appears the process attempts to connect to the server and returns with a response "Unable to Activate License". What steps need to be taken to correct this issue.

    Please close the free tools. Right click on the desktop shortcut and 'Run as Administrator' even if you are logged in as administrator. Please let me know your results.

    Using runas didn't work. I tried using runas with the local administrator and as the domain administrator but both attempts failed.

    I too am having the same issue where the Free Network Tools program is asking me to purchase the Free Network Tools in order to use it. Does the Free Network Tools program require a purchase and how much does the Free version cost?

  • It worked on a laptop that was not behind our proxy server, but I still can't activate on my desktop.

    There is no issue with Internet access and every atempt to activate the license ended in a failure.

  • Are you behind a proxy server?

    1. Run tool suite exe as administrator.
    2. Issues registering QFNT in a Proxy based Environment:

    In an environment with a Proxy server, The QFNT might not work as it requires proxy settings, which can't be configured as a part of toolsuite registration/configuration process.

    However, there is a hack to get the settings in.

    1. Close the toolsuite.
    2. Go to:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\Free Network Tools\Toolkit.exe.config

    Open the file in Notepad.

    It will look like this by default:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

    <configuration>

    <appSettings >

    <add key="AppHelp" value="\help\ToolSuite.chm"/>

    </appSettings>

    <runtime>

    <enforceFIPSPolicy enabled="false"/>

    </runtime>

    </configuration>

    Add the following, just above </configuration>

    <system.net>

    <defaultProxy enabled="false" useDefaultCredentials="true">

    <proxy usesystemdefault="False"/>

    </defaultProxy>

    </system.net>

    The final version will look like:

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

    <configuration>

    <appSettings >

    <add key="AppHelp" value="\help\ToolSuite.chm"/>

    </appSettings>

    <runtime>

    <enforceFIPSPolicy enabled="false"/>

    </runtime>

    <system.net>

    <defaultProxy enabled="false" useDefaultCredentials="true">

    <proxy usesystemdefault="False"/>

    </defaultProxy>

    </system.net>

    </configuration>

    Save and close the file and you should be able to register the toolsuite.

  • Still get the same Error. Unable to activate license. and the links to the new version don't seem to be working.

  • I have exactly the same issue, I have tried the toolkit.config fix, running as administrator, installing as administrator, but it still fails to activate

  • This Quest Free Network tool has been formally retired and it is no longer supported.  We've pulled the tool down from all of our domains/sites, to our knowledge, but there are some other websites that posted this over the years and it has been difficult to remove all of them.  If you wouldn't mind, please provide us with the link where you acquired this and we'll work to have it removed.

  • The software is installed directly from FogLight NMS, the latest version.
