Looking for a best practice to backup sql server with Netvault Plugin and VDI option including transaction logs

Hi,

i am looking for some kind of best practices that covers the creation of a backup policy/job to do regular vdi based sql server backups including transactions and log truncation.

Kind regards

Tobias

  • Hi

This will depend on your environment

there are users that do 1 full backup weekly then rest of days differentials and hourly incremental transaction logs

there are users that do 1 full backup weekly then rest of days differentials (they have simple recovery model set on db's that doesn't requires log backups)

there are users that do full backups all days

there are users that do 1 full backup weekly or monthly, differentials rest of days and daily incremental transaction log

It depends on how much logs do you generate, recovery models set for db's, the amount of work loss exposure and if recovery PIT (point in time) needed, this backups strategies should be set by a DBA that knows his environment.

    Hope the information above helps.

    Regards
