One of the core features of Stat involves the application of Oracle Ebusiness patches. While Stat has the capability to schedule and automate the patch application, there are times where it is necessary to apply the patch manually in order to interact with the patch, restart workers, etc… Stat’s undocumented patch wizard allows you to track these patches for reporting and keep your audit trail intact. I am going to discuss how it works in Stat and what you need to do to take full advantage of it.
The undocumented patch wizard is a way of extracting out the application patches you have applied by reading into the underlying Oracle AD_APPLIED_PATCHES table and then pulling that information into a STAT change service request for tracking and reporting. By utilizing this technology you can have instant visibility and patch comparisons between environments. This process should be one of the first things you run in a new implementation and should also be run periodically to ensure its accuracy if patches are sometimes applied manually.
To run the undocumented patch wizard select Object Mgmt from the top menu and choose Undocumented Patches at the very bottom of the dropdown as seen below.
Once the wizard is open you will need to select ‘Oracle Applications’ from the module dropdown and then the environment you wish to run it against from the ‘’Environment’ dropdown list. You will see Stat immediately go out and retrieve any patches that are not documented for that environment. The ‘In Stat’ checkbox will show with a checkmark if those patches have been uploaded into Stat for this or another environment (even if not applied via Stat.) Any patches without a checkmark have not been added into Stat and were detected from the Oracle table information.
Once the list is populated you may select each patch individually or all by selecting the green checkbox above the window. In order to add into Stat, you will need to either have a patching CSR created or create a new one from scratch using the appropriate ‘New CSR’ or ‘Lookup CSRs’ button in the bottom left corner. After you have selected or created a CSR you can use the add button in the center to move the selected patch(es) into that CSR. You can add various patches to different CSR’s if you wish.
Note: If you are creating a new CSR, you will have to generate a migration path in the Oracle App/Advanced tab within the CSR in order for the patches to be added. The environment you choose must be in that migration path.
After the patches have been added they will disappear from the right side and are now in the CSR you added them too. You can hit ‘Close’ to exit the wizard.
If you open up the CSR you will see the undocumented patches have been added in the Oracle App tab. You will see they are marked with an icon signifying they have been added via the undocumented patch wizard as seen below.
You now understand how to use the ‘Undocumented Patch Wizard’ and can now thoroughly document all patches that were applied outside of Stat. You can run reports and patch environment comparisons.
